Challenges Are Expected!

This week, I found the news-article assignment to be quite challenging. Html seems pretty straight forward but CSS appears a bit more complicated. I suppose it’s because it’s a different language although they appear similar.

The most difficult task and the one I am working on understanding is captioning a bordered photo and the concept of float right and left. I can float, I can caption, I can add a border but when I try to put them all together everything collapses. I needed to look up how to do each one individually and with some more research I’ll understand how to put them all together and make it work.

I found the video critiquing landing pages interesting and learned a few things about creating a portfolio. The intro should be short and sweet and show personality. Taking a risk with a full image on the landing page works because scrolling is expected when viewing a portfolio. As with most things in life, quality is preferred over quantity. It is also good to show a “behind the scenes” visual of the parts of the project you worked on; if possible a before and after is also nice.

After reading the article UX vs UI vs IA vs IxD, I became a little clearer on design and believe I am more attracted to UI than UX in the design category. I had never heard of IxD so I looked it up and came across IDF, a nonprofit organization that offers affordable ivy league design courses. Interesting enough, a site listed as an authority on IxD was hard to read and I left the site almost immediately. The best and clearest explanation on IxD was found here. After reading this I now have a clearer understanding of IxD which is simply helping users navigate a website and guiding them with buttons, menus, error messages so they are able to experience the site in a way the client or designer wants them to.
